Hole in the Wall

In this part of the research we created a 'Hole in the Wall' effect, sometimes referred to as a portal. Our idea is to show the interior of an object, by placing an AR object within a 'cloaked' cube.

Cloaking is a technique where you wrap an object in another 3d object that has an invisible surface with a hole in it, through which the interior object can be seen - the invisible surface is literally an invisibility cloak!

In our demo, we use a cube with one side missing, with the other sides invisible. We place graph-paper tiles around the interior of the cube, and a sphere in the centre.

The next step in this experiment is to attach a video 'inside' the real world object, anchored to the cloaked cube.
